Posted another version, both have view source enabled just install the AIR app and right click to view source, sorry I decided to start with an AIR app just figured it would be less likely to run into security sandbox type issues just to test out the concept. This version keeps reading records from the file until it hits the end of the file and deals with drawing markers for "Points" found in the shapefile (which I think is not eSRI now that I read a bit more about it), so it should appropriately deal with polygons or sets of points as is.
