Just to chime in here... I am personally very reluctant to "register" with an informational site. I can understand the obvious need to register to be alerted to updates, but that's not always appropriate and/or necessary. The absolute worst offender that I often come across is experts-exchange... oh yes, and Chicago Tribune. I think those two are joined at the hip.
So... how about making registration optional? Just as one can sign up for this discussion group and receive daily emails or not. I have actually made a significant enhancement to my runner maps site (http:// www.webtonix.com/maps/) SOLELY because I "discovered" driving directions in a daily condensed soup email from this list. (which would be an argument in favor of your registration...)
