Hi guys and girls

I'm trying to get a simple Google Map working from a website that is
viewable on a Mobile device WITHOUT the aid of Google Maps for Mobile.
Everything is going well using off the shelf software, but I have a
few questions.

Is there a string you can use to decrease the map's image resolution
within a URL to make the map download smaller?

Failing that, can you save map URLs on a page as links, then click
them (from that mobile device) so they open in Google Maps for Mobile?
Like you would for a straight website and Google Earth on a PC/Mac?

I need to build a directory site, which also has a mobile version (it
simply changes template for mobile device, working already, but needs
optimization).

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
