Another example:

    www.polyarc.us/polybuilder

It uses a "click" / "rollover" grid for all states (except Hawaii &
Alaska) without building any polys.  For a few polys, the API's
discrete "click" event listener per poly will work.  For a lot of
polys, the overhead is excessive.
