I use MGMaps on my phone. I suggest you have a word with Cristian
Streng who runs MGMaps - see http://www.mgmaps.com/ - he has an online
chat panel so you could fire a quick question at him if he's online.
He has run into TOS problems with Google and now withdrawn his use of
Google Maps so he may well understand your issues better than most. In
case you're wondering what it is, the following is the intro to MGMaps
from the web page:
Mobile GMaps is a FREE application that displays maps from Google
Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Windows Live Local (MSN Virtual Earth), Ask.com,
Open Street Map and other sources on Java J2ME-enabled mobile phones,
PDAs and other devices. MGMaps can connect to a GPS receiver over
bluetooth or use internal GPS features on some phones in order to
automatically display the map for your current position. You can pre-
download maps and store them on your memory card in order to use them
on the go without accessing the internet.
The last sentence in this description seems to be what you are after.
