I think that having the irc client running all the time can be very
distracting.
However, I often thought that perhaps we could create a second group,
like "Google-Maps-API-OffTopic", for members of this group to discuss
anything not API related, from basic Javascript to the color of
Hillary's dress.

This is actually not my own idea, but it is something that Borland
implemented many years ago on their NNTP servers, where they host
support groups for their products, Delphi and CPP Builder, and it was
a huge success.

The difference with irc is "real time disturbance" versus "read
whenever you want to read".
