I agree that the app is fairly complex, and that the code is not clean
(at all). I also looked at the API changes and didn't see anything
that looked as though it should make a difference. I did note that
some initialization was now being done in a different order (to trey
and speed something up), and I wonder if this is the root cause of my
problem.
