My understanding of the TOS is of course my understanding only but as
far as I can see, the only way you can use any of the Google map
components, be they static or otherwise, is to have a link that
generates said maps in the official browser only. Embedding a static
map in your iPhone app directly is prohibited. It certainly would be
nice to be able to do such a thing though.

My solution is to create rudimentary maps using the Tiger data and
have then link to a Google API map. This way there is no violation of
any copyright as Tiger based maps are free to use.
