Hi, I would like to know why an entire island is missing off of google maps and google earth! The island was present as of August 2008. I know because i used printouts of the island's satellite images for kayaking this summer. Currently, the island is only visible at about 50% zoom with satellite images. You are still able to see the island under the maps option only. If you zoom in further than 50%, the island disappears, rendering any satellite imagery useless.
Why is the island missing from the satellite image? How can I get the island back onto the satellite maps? How did an entire island get overlooked? Dutch Island can be found within Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. Dutch Island is not a small island that could be easily overlooked. Dutch Island is just under a mile long, and is located about 1.5 miles south of the Jamestown bridge, between Saunderstown, RI (on the mainland) and the island of Jamestown. Google has the island location titled as "Dutch Island State Management Area" and if you switch between satellite and map view, you will see the island appear (map) and disappear (satellite). The island is managed by the Rhode Island State Department of Environmental Management, and is currently a wildlife protection area. If this question is in the wrong location, I apologize. Please provide me with a link or directions on how to locate the correct location.
