Perhaps I should have qualified: your example is fine for me in IE6. I don't have IE7 or 8. And on closer inspection, it's not the shadow area: it's the bounding-box of the infoWindow tail. Click the middle marker to open its infoWindow and then try and open the right hand marker's. This is actually issue 193 http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/issues/detail?id=193 which is nearly a year old. Add your star to that issue.
