I don't know exactly when they showed up. Within the last few months, I'd say. Google Maps now have what I'm assuming is a layer for "points of interest" or "historical sites" or something. No one in the Google Maps forum seems to know where they came from or how exactly they work.
Go to http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Rome,+Rome+(Lazio),+Italy&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=43.578243,76.201172&ie=UTF8&ll=41.901159,12.482336&spn=0.005023,0.009302&z=17 just as an example and see all the labels such as "Palazzo Chigi," "Fontana di Trevi" etc. The icons disappear after zooming out a few clicks. These are NOT the Wikipedia Layer, whose icons are the Wikipedia "W" logo. Does anyone know if this "Sights Layer" is ever going to be available to API maps? I'd like to add it to mine! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
