The quick fix for the markers issue is, as Andrew described, using the API built-in functions to fetch and parse the XML. However, I would expect other issues to arise, for example from having the javascript inside a <table>. I would have to look at your code in a lot more detail to determine what needs to be changed, and there are probably other things, outside the maps, which are also "IE only".
