Go to the Google Maps API group home page and click on 'My Account' in the top right corner of the page. Then click on 'Groups - Manage subscriptions' and you can switch off the delivery of all group mailings.
To get email from answers to any particular posting, ie this one, click on 'Options' at the top right corner of the discussions block and then click on 'Email updates to me' on the left.
