We encountered this same issue on our site as well.  Disabling Firebug
did the trick (thanks!).  We were unable to reproduce this in IE.
Also, we're using prototype.js and scriptaculous.  Apparently Firebug
has patched this already, but is still in the process of releasing the
fix.  Here it is though for the antsy people:
