Thanks for the reply. We had considered using images but there are a number of issues i) We have thousands of different polygons ii) They need to be coloured differently depending on results of a database query iii) We really need to handle polygon clicks. We have code to simplify the polygons depending on the zoom level and for the moment it seems OK even with IE even if it takes 20 seconds. We just need to let the people viewing the maps that something is happening until we see the polygons.
