Sorry to be a bit slow, To follow up on your point about clicks, could you give just a little bit more detail on what you mean about handling the clicks on the server? Do you mean that the images have onclick event's attached to them. Is there a link to somewhere to using images rather than polygons. I see you use the projectedoverlay class (http:// code.google.com/p/projectedoverlay/) which is similar to the google maps GGroundOverlay class.
I can not get you 1st example (http://maps.huge.info/zipcolors.htm) to work in Firefox or Safari although it does work in IE. Entering 94043 (google's zip) and leaving the radius at 5 does not produce any results. In the second example (http://www.usnaviguide.com/zip.htm) clicking on the image overlays seems just to add a new marker. Could it bring up an info box for example.
