If it were me, I'd locate and download the shapes for country borders, load them into a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database and reverse geocode them into their respective countries. Using this method doesn't limit what you can do with the results. You could use Google's reverse geocoder but if you do that, you have to abide by their fairly restrictive terms. Since all you want is the country, creating your own home grown version would be the least restrictive and allow you to do as many as your server can handle without fear of being blocked.
Of course, that's just me.
