I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I've started thinking about how it might be done and wondered if anyone has done it.
My thought is wouldn't it be cool if you could allow the user to click on the satellite map, read their location and zoom level, determine what image sources they might be viewing (Digital Globe, GeoEye, etc.), create a list of links that would send the location clicked out via URL to the specific or various sources' website'(s) image catalog (s) in order to view Metadata about the image source. I just reviewed the Digital Globe website and image search tool and it looks pretty locked down with regard to how you search, i.e., it's not as simple as passing a URL, BUT, perhaps someone has spent some time looking into this. Any thoughts? This would also be a nice feature for Google Maps to have "out of the box", because knowing the dates of the images you are looking at is sometimes as important as being able to look at the image.
