Well it looks like it is going to have to be web-based. We were trying
to use as much of what the client already has as possible but never
mind.

I agree with the "as the crow flys" theory but unfortunately the
client is adamant that it must be by route. If it was "as the crow
flys" I wouldn't need to use Google Maps at all as the software I have
already written returns the Long/Lat and I could use that to do simple
calculations and find the 3 closest. Not that it ultimately worries me
(code is code) but their chequebook might not be happy!
