Yeah, I lean on Mike's tutorial all the time, and I grabbed most of
the functionality of this map from his tutorial.  In fact, he
responded with some great ideas to the thread that I mentioned in my
original post, but the link to the example is broken and I can't see
what he was referring to specifically.

As for the disc golf map, it accomplished the polygon overlays by
using a bunch of kml files.  I could do this, but I'd really prefer
not to since most of the data are sent to me in a format that makes
using an XML file the most convenient option.  Although after spending
a million hours today struggling to find my own way with XML, it might
be smarter to go with the kmls.  Thanks for the thoughts.
