Yes, I thought the same thing, except the rest of the content has rendered (including all content before and after the map), so the page itself has been downloaded by the browser, and it seems to be taking a long time in the browser itself.
Also, I've asked a few users with access to try it out and they said they are not seeing this slowdown. I've tried it now on 3 browsers: IE, Firefox and Chrome. Only Firefox 3.0.11 seems to be showing this behaviour. I've been getting a lot of content encoding errors all over the web too with this latest version of Firefox, so it might be browser related.
