"District" is not an address in the UK. There's no way that any
geocoder is going to be successful with that! The geocoder is doing
its best with what you're giving it, and the result is actually quite
good.

Don't forget, the geocoder geocodes **addresses**, with street names
and towns.

However, I would recommend using UK instead of GB.
http://maps.google.com/maps/geo?q=District,UK&output=xml does actually
include the Lake District, although it's not first. I've no idea why
the Lewes result is first, nor why Eastbourne District General
Hospital (among others!) isn't listed along with Salisbury and York.
