Those are more non-addresses. The geocoder is intended to geocode postal addresses : when it you give it something else, by design it assumes it must be fragments of an address and tries its best to match it up. After all, if you have the street wrong or missing you are even more likely to have the country wrong or missing (from the geocoders point of view). It's just using ES as part of the address string fragment to search for. Look at the result from Italy - it's 'Malles' The geocoder thinks that's a good match for Mall,ES and it's right. I think you'll always get unpredictable results searching for things like Mall,ES and Cornish,UK from any address-centric geocoder. They are designed to return a postal address, and that's not what you seem to be looking for at all. Cornish,GB actually wouldn't be recognised as meaning anything by any Brit person - although we'd easily guess you probably meant Cornwall,UK - or perhaps Cornish Riviera, UK? Or maybe "where can I buy Cornish ice cream in the UK"?? or possibly "find Cornish language placenames in the UK"??? The geocoder is more limited in scope, knowing only about postal addresses, and does its best to find some e.g. "Cornish Avenue" at the other end of the country. I would expect address-oriented geocoders to be hopeless at finding say, a mountain range, as that isn't a postal address. Example - http://maps.google.com/maps/geo?q=Alps,Switzerland&output=xml Without having any idea what you're doing, you may get better results from some other geocoders that include non-postal address in their data, no I don't know which but see here - http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Maps-API/web/resources-non-google-geocoders cheers, Ross K --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
