I think he's achieving the equivalent of HTTP Driving Directions by 
using a server script to screen scrape his own web page which uses 
Javascript to perform GDirections.

I reckon that's outside the spirit of the Terms, but it would probably 
need a proper lawyer to determine it it's within the letter of the 
Terms, and may well depend on whether or not the results of the process 
are eventually displayed on a Google map.
