I took a look at the page, and verified the memory problem.

It seems to me that either the browser is continuing to cache the old
images in memory, or the Javascript code isn't managing objects in
memory.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to figure out exactly what the
problem was in my limited testing.

I would second Rossko-- make a very simple demo which just loads an
overlay image, unloads it, loads another, and repeats over and over.
Verify the problem occurs in this demo, and if it does, submit it to
Google as an issue.
