Hi Rossko... I was thinking along those lines (no pun intended) but even on smaller KML's (<100k) still happening.
I have been experimenting and if I redner only with google (and not geoXML) it works fine .. see here: http://www.lumieres.com.au/test/test/test2.html. For some reason IE is not liking the combination of the long.detail routes and rendering a sidebar.
