GGeoXml works very differently - the KML is fetched to and processed on Google's servers, which rather outperforms doing it client-side in IE ... I believe its clever enough to do point reduction for you as well. At some unknown level of complexity, GGeoXml will also switch to a mode of rendering the KML as tile overlays rather than 'proper' GPolys. I don't know if that's happening here. I don't think so, as zoom and pan performance is still poor.
