It looks like it's a glitch in the PNG handling. In browsers that don't have native support for transparent PNG files, the upper layer of the hybrid map isn't transparent, so you can't see the satellite images underneath. In browsers that do support transparent PNG files natively, the Hybrid mode looks fine.
