Thank you for this, I've replicated the error. It seems to be in versions 2.165 - 2.173, and fixed in the next version.
We will ensure 2.173 does not become v2. FYI, we reference the issue tracker when figuring out what version is OK, as we add tags that indicate the version that an issue was introduced and fixed in. So, it is important to file issues for any regression bugs (or to make sure that we do, as you've done in this thread). Also - I have added a MapTypeControl to the version checker map to make this easier to check, and I've also made the "map" a global variable on the page, so you can check random code on it: http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/versionchecker.html?v=2.165 It may make it easier for you folks to replicate people's errors.
