I think this then means, "how do I get my popups z-index above
streetview?"
The difficulty arises because streetview is a Flash gizmo, which tend
to float to the top of the browser window.
There are some ideas here -
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=flash+z-index&meta=&aq=f&oq=
but most of them require acces to the flash wmode, which I don't think
you can get in streetview.
Unless you can get some css based solution to work, I think you are
stuck with show/hide.
