I am experiencing this exact same problem. For months, kml maps rendered fine with the Google renderer. Then all of a sudden in October, they stopped rendering. As noted above, I can see only a blank world map. Switching to geoxml brought them back to life. All of my original maps seem to be fine at maps.google.com.
Interestingly, if I switch back and forth between the geoxml and google renderers, then the google renderer works again for a little while. But after a few page refreshes, then it fails again. Geoxml works consistently. Has the US national intelligence community imposed some sort of restriction on kml rendering? Perhaps their illegal intrusions into domestic network communication are also sloppy and this is a symptom of their carelessness?
