The failure symptom for the getMaxZoomAtLatLng failure looks kinda
like the missing tiles problem if you do not detect the failure and
offer a fallback setCenter. One gets grey box with no map tiles...

and yep, that's the reason why my 1 map was working yesterday but the
other 2 were failing.
