I tried version 2.s and the difference is very apparent. With 2.s the redraw of, for example, 31 very long and complex with lots of vertices takes milliseconds. with 2. it takes seconds. I'll amble along to bug report central and get something on file. Thanks again gents. I've learned a lot from Mike, Rosko, Marcelo, Martin and others and I'm almost confident enough to pop my head above the parapet once in a while and help other people.
