Thanks, ended up doing it with:
SELECT * FROM `gforum_Wiki_Article` WHERE
(article_longitude >= $southwest_lng AND article_latitude >=
$southwest_lat) AND
(article_longitude <=$northeast_lng AND article_latitude <=
$northeast_lat)
... seems to work perfectly :)
