So the layers need to be re-enabled when the GE instance is re- enabled. I think it's reasonable that Earth layers are disabled when the plugin isn't shown -- and because we're dealing with Flash here rather than tilesets, behaviour may well be different from the maps and GTileLayer -- and the layers need to be re-enabled when the map type is changed back.
