I can assure you that there was nothing hasty about this decision. We
have been planning it, and working towards it, for some time.

We understand that there are some features of the v2 API not yet
offered in v3, but we know (based on usage data that we collect) that
the features used by the vast majority of v2 sites are now available
in v3.

It has never been our intention to migrate every v2 feature to v3.
Some get so little use that it is simply not worthwhile. Others, such
as the utility functions, are now better served by other means, such
as the Closure Library. We therefore ask that you help us prioritise
the remaining missing features by raising those you need on the Issue
Tracker.

Graduating from Code Labs is not just about features. It's also about
testing, monitoring, versioning, interface stability, responsiveness
to bugs, enterprise support, and a long term commitment to the future
of the API. All of these are now in place for v3. We also felt that it
was only right to be honest with developers that we are no longer
investing in new v2 features. This is why we felt the time was right
to graduate v3 and deprecate v2.

Many thanks,

Thor.
