GGeoXml can use the G-overlays, as must the alternatives.  GGeoXml
will also serve an image tile layer under some circumstances, to
overcome browser inabilities or data source complexity. This doesn't
seem to have anything to do with your original post.

v2 is deprecated, it already has a functional KML handler.  I really
don't know  what you expect to happen next.
