Your "transparent.png" is too big. It's 90px wide and completely covers the Brighton marker apart from a thin sliver at the top. If you used the custom marker maker, it implies that your marker image isn't actually transparent where it's supposed to be, and that it's the wrong size. Crop the image as close as possible to the visible size; make sure it's at 100% opacity and it's entirely transparent where the map is supposed to show through. The "transparent.png" captures clicks because it isn't *actually* transparent. The true transparent areas don't register the click, and the 1%-opacity region (which is invisible to the eye) does capture the click.
