You need to read a bit further ... Static Maps v2 doesn't need a key, but that isn't the only change. Just removing the key from an old-style v1 URL may not work, you may have to make other changes http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/staticmaps/upgrade.html > Here the test page:http://ip-geo.appspot.com/ Worked for me in FF2 (well sort of, I got a map of 60 miles away).
