I'd be looking at making your process a bit more defensive.  What
happens if you get a 620 error? (You REALLY need to know about that
when automating requests)  What happens if your list includes an
invalid lat/long pair?  What happens if a valid lat/long doesn't
return a country (e.g. in the ocean)?

I can't see either why you're not using the HTTP geocoder service.
