I am new to working with google maps API , but have experience working with GIS, and I am trying to find out if it would be possible to perform an action with google maps api, or it would be better that I go with one of the open source online mapping like MapServer or MapGuide.
My question is: In Google Maps API, is it possible to have a polygon shapefile in which a user could click on a shapefile, submit information, and have the information either 1) return to me as a text file or 2) be stored onto a database which I could retrieve. For example, lets say I want the person to select a polygon on the shapefile that corresponds with a persons house, and have them input the number of people that live in that house, and then I could see what they input.....so if John Doe clicks on his house, which is polygon number 15, and inputs that he has 5 people living that house, it will either input into a database or send me a text file that says "polygon 15 has 5 people living in the house".
