In that case,  for when I am figuring out how to do this, what are
some good key words I can use to refine my searches...for example,
instead of searching "submitting info into a KML file",  what exactly
is the specific words I can look up ( first of all, so I can stop
bugging the listserv).

Also, what resources (books, webpages, etc) would you recommend for
someone just beginning working with Google APIs?
