I've shed many tears over this too but I learned programming at the C: prompt on a black screen and white text (ages ago) and doing this with Notepad helps give me a thorough understanding of how the code really works and why it does what it does. My friend, you bring tears to my eyes, and not the good kind. Do yourself a big favor and get a decent editor. There are plenty of free ones that will do a MUCH better job for you than Notepad. I recommend Komodo Edit: http://www.activestate.com/komodo-edit I use the commercial version, Komodo IDE: http://www.activestate.com/komodo-ide But the free Komodo Edit version would be a *huge* improvement over Notepad. For one thing, it checks the syntax of your code while you edit it, and it would have given a warning about the "if(foo=true)" statement. (It's not a syntax error, but it does trigger a warning because it is so often a mistake.)
