yes, hard to say without seeing how you toggle between layers (and what these layers are - I'm thinking polygons?), how the image is displayed... in short, without seeing your map. I've found the easiest way (for me, anyway) to get things happening at the same time is to include them in the same array and function - for example here: http://www.xelawho.com/map/drive.htm showing a line also zooms and pans the map, pops up an infowindow and displays info at the side.
