I wouldnt actully be that difficult to make a javascript API based
map, that simply loads your KML file. Can choose to not show controls
if you want.

No static maps dont support passing them a KML url.

Pretty much. It pretty much a requirement that the definition of the
map is contained entirely in the URL. Then the generated map can be
cached solely on the contents of the url (say a md5 hash of)

If passed a KML url, the kml could be changing every few minutes, in
which case the map wouldnt actully be cacheable (obviouslly it still
could, but wouldnt be ideal)
