I have the same problem and it still won't work :( I posted a link to my map http://www.dinkypage.com/104420 . I am running locally and the xml file comes up as a blank page in my browser, when I look at the source I see it's valid xml <?xml version="1.0"?> <markers><marker name="Pan Africa Market" address="1521 1st Ave, Seattle, WA" lat="47.608940" lng="-122.340141" type="restaurant"/>
My map link displays the same problem I have locally -->Same code as the tutorial, valid php but no markers on the map.. http://www.dinkypage.com/104423 and view source shows my php code and as a comment at the bottom I've shown that it outputs valid xml.
