I got a solution for this from Chris Broadfoot, incase anyone else has the same problem:
There is an issue with large markers like you have - the simple fix (that we put out today) is to specify optimized: false inside your MarkerOptions. Alternatively, you can switch to the stable version (3.3, rather than 3.4) by specifying v=3.3 when you load the API.
