I'll add to that. GoogleMaps API is specifically for maps, even though they do offer a lot of services bundled with it that could be used without maps, their Terms of Service for this particular API does require the map to be displayed among other things.
However, Google does provide several other APIs. Have you checked if any of the other APIs that they provide would give you the results you are looking for and have Terms of Service that wouldn't require a map to be presented to the user?
