Thank you so much, Mike, for your help. Going over your example highlighted 
to me that I'd missed one critical sentence in the docs.... complete fail on 
my part, so I'm sorry to have taken your time.  In case you want to reuse 
your example elsewhere, note that the basePicasaWebUrl value in your code 
example is missing a trailing "/" mentioned in the 
docs<http://code.google.com/apis/picasaweb/docs/2.0/developers_guide_protocol.html>,
 
though it apparently doesn't matter.

Is there a way for an installed app to set its own redirect_url? The desktop 
app I'm working within is registered with the OS as the handler for certain 
urls, so if I could set the redirect_uri, the user wouldn't have to do any 
cut-n-paste and it would all just be automatic once they granted access.
