To avoid the embedded instance using IE7 compatibility mode, take a look at FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee330730%28v=vs.85%29.aspx Basically, a registry value has to be added for the application to say you always want to use IE8 rendering (value 8888).
